Television Time Limit

24 Aug

While sitting here at the dinner table with a magazine article writing book and my laptop, with no television on (simply my Blink-182 Pandora station playing & my wonderful hubby cooking burgers in the kitchen) I have decided to limit my television watching hours in the next week. (That was one of my longer sentences… apologies.) I haven’t been very productive, writing-wise, since moving in here. I get too easily distracted by whatever is on t.v. at the moment, then realize I have to hurry up and get ready for work.

It’s really lame. And I need to get out of the habit! So that is my goal for the next week. Hopefully I’m productive, and it lasts longer than the week.

The other night (the day of my birthday!) we were coming home from our friends’ apartment, and while pulling into our complex we saw a little kitten running on the road. Of course I wanted to get it and take it home, and Kevin suggested we do the same! Yay, right?! So we get out of the car to find the kitten in some bushes, and we can’t find it. Eventually Kevin rustled the bushes, and said kitten scurries out the other side only to run away under some parked vehicles. We looked under them, and all over the area around the parking area, and we could not find the kitten. Boo. I was quite upset. I almost had a kitten for my birthday! He probably has a home somewhere anyway. I hope so!

Well I believe it’s laundry time.

.It’s been a long time…

.I shouldn’t have left you… Without a dope beat to step to.

Anybody? Aaliyah – “Try Again.” HaHa.

I’m not really sure why I haven’t written in so long… other than I got busy doing nothing. Between working out, trying to work out, working at the restaurant, figuring out paychecks from the paper, hanging out with friends, and watching a lot of That 70s Show with Kevin… I forgot to bloggity blog.

Sidebar: That 70s Show is amazing. I always knew this but I had never watched it regularly or in order. So we watched all 8 seasons in order and I have to say, I grew quite attached. So when the end came I was pretty upset! And the “Final Goodbye” episode… it’s SO sad! It’s a hilarious show and I just love all of the characters. Other than that Randy guy they brought in at the end–he was just kind of there.

Enough of that.

I’m thinking about watching Twighlight. I know, I know. Shoot me in the face. I don’t want to cave! But when your best friend who knows you inside & out tells you that you HAVE to see it and that you’ll LOVE it… it makes you wonder. I still don’t think I want to read the books. I’ve heard time & time again that the writing is incredibly amateur and almost amusing because of that… if I ever read the books I’d have to go into it knowing that it wasn’t going to be fantastic literature and that it’s aimed towards 14-year-old girls.

And I know that the movie isn’t as good as the book (or so they say) but if the only great thing about the books is the story… why not just see the movie? So, that’s what I’m going to do. I’ll rent the damn movie… if I like it, then I like it. I’ll have to come to terms with that. Ha. And if I love love love it and become one of the millions of Twighlight-obsessed… someone please just push me down a flight of stairs. Ha again. I’m kidding. If I do love it MAYBE I’ll be compelled to read the books. I just don’t know…

Well time for some Sims2 action. Oh yeah! The most exciting of recent events in my life… I bought Sims2 & fixed the video card on my computer so it works beautifully! Yayyy! HaHa. I’m so lame.

The really exciting news is actually that I was asked to attend the GVSU writing department awards banquet thingie for December 08 and May 09 graduates. I’m getting a certificate for graduating with Distinction in Writing (their honor chord thing) and for my poem being one of two chosen by GVSU to represent the school in a nationwide writing competition. Sweet crap, right?! I’m fairly pumped.
